In a business as sensitive as mining, broad-based community support is essential. Decades before the term sustainable development was coined, Imerys practiced good neighborliness. Not only was it clearly what is now called ‘enlightened self interest’, it just seemed like the right thing to do.
The relationships we build with our neighbors are enduring, founded on mutual respect, active partnership and long term commitment. In fact, many of our operations have deep roots in the communities where they operate - some going back over a hundred years. At these operations, the local communities are still formed to a significant extent by the employees themselves and their families. Consequently, the bond between our operations and the local communities is very strong.
Our interaction with communities involves:
- Consultation to open new facilities, run existing ones and close them at the end of their productive lives
- Sponsoring community-based projects that can make a difference in a sustainable way
- Supporting regional development, training and youth programs, and employment and small business opportunities
This community action is detailed in rolling multiple-year community plans which are integrated into each site's operational planning.
The relationships we build with our neighbors are enduring, founded on mutual respect, active partnership and long term commitment.
Imerys Performance Additives sites all over the world are active participants in the European Minerals Day, a biennial event organized by IMA-Europe to foster closer ties with local communities.
