The Argical™-M range provides a broad range of benefits in concretes, lime mortars and plasters.
Our Argical™-M range of metakaolins are manufactured through the calcination of kaolin to form an amorphous pozzolanic white mineral additive for use in cement based products. The pozzolanic reactivity of metakaolin refers to is its ability to react with calcium hydroxide in cement based products. Metakaolin is also used as an additive to substitute cement.
- Reduced ‘cover’
Argical™-M reduces the porosity of concrete allowing a reduction in the ‘cover’ of concrete needed to protect reinforcing bars from corrosion. It is ideal for road and marine structures exposed to corrosive salts.
- Higher cured compressive strength
Where high strength concrete is required, Argical™-M increases cured compressive strength of concrete and speed up curing and early strength development, making it ideal for applications where high strength is required quickly such as airport aprons.
Argical™-M reduces efflorescence by reducing the porosity of the concrete and reacting with lime salts before they reach the concrete surface.
Argical™-M can also be used to modify the handling properties of wet concrete, particularly benefiting the viscosity profile and reducing the tendency to bleed, making leveling and achieving a good surface finish easier.
- Lime prevention in GFRC
In GFRC, Argical™-M is used to prevent lime formation in Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete which compromises connections between the cement matrix and the GF fibers causing breakdown of pieces.
- Improved mechanical properties in Portland cement-based concrete
Premium pozzolanic Argical™-M products provide improved strength, durability, workability and finish in Portland cement-based concrete.
In lime mortars and plasters
Our Argical™-M range of reactive pozzolans are ideal for achieving hydraulic set in traditional lime putty mortars and plasters and for improving the mechanical strength of floor mortars. Pozzolans are helpful when applying lime putty mixes in damp, frost prone or exposed locations. The addition of Argical™-M to lime putty mixes will increase compressive strength which helps to offer additional protection during the carbonation period.
We recommend the following grades range for these applications.
- Argical™-M 1000
Produced in a rotary kiln (cement type kiln) and yields a powder after grinding of about d50 10-15µm.
- Argical™-M 1200S
Produced through powder calcination in a flash calciner to obtain a hyper-reactive product (mineral reagent) of about d50 between 1 and 2µm.
