Mica products For superior mechanical performance, barrier properties and anti-cracking in paints
- Excellent chemical stability
- Superior weathering
- Ideal for decorative and industrial paints
Mica elementary crystals are three-layer platy minerals. The bonding strength between these layers gives all micas very high chemical and weathering stability.
Using selected milling and delamination techniques, we tailor the properties of our mica grades to provide high levels of:
- Film reinforcement
- Barrier properties
- Chemical and solvent resistance
- Cracking resistance
- UV resistance
Mica MU™ M2/1 for stain-blocking primers
Our Mica MU™ M2/1 product is a highly lamellar grade with a 20µm top cut.
Mica MU™ M2/1 is recommended for solvent- and water-based primer applications requiring superior stain-blocking where it:
- Improves barrier protection over time, significantly limiting stain migration
- Enhances adhesion and anti-cracking
- Improves UV protection in paints
- Is a cost-effective and easy-to-formulate solution
Our Mica MU™ and North-American Suzorite® mica grades also provide superior performance in:
- Indoor and outdoor decorative coatings
- Metal primers
- Marine coatings
- Anti-corrosion paints
- Heat-resistant paints
- Intumescent paints
- Wood paints
- Floor paints
- Traffic markings

EU REACh and Ecolabel
Imerys products for paints and coatings are naturally occurring, chemically inert minerals that are simply ground to achieve a specific particle distribution size. We do not use additives in our processes. As such, our products are exempt from EU REACH registration and compliant with EU Ecolabel criteria governing organic paints. Imerys minerals reduce the overall environmental impact of your paints and coatings formulations.
We offer a full range of bespoke formulation and technical and process support services to help you match the right mineral grade to your application requirement.
