Rigid Packaging Imerys talcs for lightweight rigid packaging and optimized formulation costs

Imerys talcs are your ideal solution for achieving lightweight packaging with optimum mechanical properties whilst increasing production output and reducing formulation costs. 

Thermoformed PP packaging

Imerys talcs improve the stiffness of thermoformed polypropylene (PP) packaging, allowing manufacturers to reduce wall thickness, improve production output and reduce formulation costs. They are also ideal nucleation agents.

Imerys talcs:

  • Improve flexural modulus enabling downgaging
  • Increase dimensional stability,  reduce thermal expansion, shrinkage, warpage and anisotropy
  • Limit IR absorption
  • Improve barrier properties
  • Are ideal nucleating agents
  • Speed up cooling, shortening production cycles
  • Improve cuttability and printability of the finished product
  • Increase heat resistance -  ideal for microwave resistant packaging for prepared meal applications

Injection molded and blow molded polyolefins

In HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE and PP bottles and packaging, Imerys talcs:

  • Increase stiffness and tensile strength enabling downgaging
  • Improve barrier properties
  • Improve heat distortion temperature 

We recommend our Steamic® range for injection and blow molded applications.

Foamed products

Our Mistrocell® product is an outstanding nucleating agent which increases cell density of foamed products.  It is ideal for producing lightweight materials with improved stiffness at lower densities.

Biopolymers

Imerys talcs make ideal eco-friendly reinforcing fillers and nucleating agents in rigid bioplastics such as polyactic acid (PLA), polybutylene succinate (PBS), and polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), where they:

  • Increase stiffness,
  • Improve dimensional stability, reduces thermal expansion, shrinkage, warpage and anisotropy
  • Improve thermal stability and heat distortion temperature
  • Reduce brittleness
  • Improve barrier properties
  • Speed up PLA crystallization reducing molding time

They are also the ideal solution for biofilms and foamed biopolymers.
